Message from DG Cassy Cheng

Dear fellow People of Action,

The tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court has deeply shaken our community. My heartfelt condolences go to all affected families.

In response, we have established the “Wang Fuk Court Care & Support Committee,” with Assistant Governor (Area 2) Stephen Cheung as Chair and Deputy Assistant Governor (Area 7) Andrew Jones as Vice Chair, to provide medium – and long-term support – including family aid and psychological recovery – as the community rebuilds.

Thanks to our members generous donations, our district-matching funding initiative (capped at HK$600,000) is already delivering aid, beginning with HK$200,000 allocated to 20 affected students through the New Territories School Heads Association. Looking ahead, the Committee is developing a mobile app to better match resources with needs—enhancing our service impact for the long term.

December is Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment Month, reminding us of our commitment to health and healing. As we care for fire-affected families, I encourage every club to highlight health-related projects and translate Rotary expertise into care where physical and emotional recovery connect.

I am also grateful to attend the 12^th THE ONE Humanitarian Award Gala, witnessing compassionate action worldwide. My sincere appreciation goes to Past District Governor David Harilela for sustaining this impactful initiative, and congratulations to all 6 finalists who are our unsung heroes.

I was pleased to meet Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo in person at Rotary Genting Zone Institute. He shared his apologies for meeting us only at this point in the year and once again emphasized his three priorities for this Rotary year: membership development, polio eradication, and peace. Moreover, our District leaders including Past District Governor Ada Cheng, Past District Governor Eric Chak and Past Assistant Governor Migaa Newby actively shared and facilitated their insights, strengthening bonds with our friends from other countries.

I am also proud to share that our District received multiple honours for 2024–25: Top Annual Fund Contribution, Top Overall Foundation Giving, and Highest Contributions to Polio Plus under Immediate Past District Governor Nigel Lo’s leadership. A special highlight was the Elderly e-Sports Tournament by Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong, which earned the Trophy of Excellence in the Rotary Project Showcase—an honour that inspires our entire District.

Don’t forget December 18 is Intercity Meeting where we appreciate our midterm recap for Membership growth, Foundation giving and PoA promotion. It is our honour to have Rotary International Trustee Chair Holger Knack to join and witness our achievement.

As the Legislative Council Election on December 7 approaches, I thank Past District Governor Eric Chin, Chair of our Government Liaison Committee, for promptly organizing a video shoot to encourage civic participation. Let each of us fulfill our civil duty by casting a vote and help shape a better future.

親愛的扶輪行動夥伴們：

宏福苑的火災悲劇深深撼動了我們整個社區。我謹向所有受影響的家庭，致以最誠摯的慰問。

為回應此次災難，我們已成立「宏福苑關懷支援委員會」，由地域二助理總監張斌擔任主席、地域七副助理總監 Andrew Jones擔任副主席，旨在提供中長期支援——包括家庭援助與心理復康，幫助社區逐步重建。

感謝社友們的慷慨捐款，讓地區的1:1配對捐款計劃（地區設港幣 60 萬元為上限配對）得以順利實施。首階段，我們已透過新界校長會向 20 名受影響學生撥款港幣 20 萬元。展望未來，委員會正開發一款手機應用程式，以更有效地配對資源與需求，長遠提升我們的服務效能。

十二月是「疾病預防與治療月」，提醒我們要持續關注健康與療癒。在關懷受火災影響家庭的同時，希望各社能夠持續進行健康相關的服務項目，將扶輪的專業轉化為行動，促進身心的整體復原。

此外，我很榮幸參與了第十二屆「無名英雄」人道獎，見證全球人道行動的力量。衷心感謝前地區總監夏大衛推動這一深具意義的計劃，並恭賀六位獲獎的無名英雄。

我很高興終於能在扶輪雲頂區域研討會與國際扶輪總社社長阿瑞佐見面。他為直到現在才親身與我們見面表達了歉意，並再次強調了他在本扶輪年度的三大重點：社員發展、根除小兒麻痺症，以及推動和平。另外，地區領導包括前地區總監鄭瑤璋、前地區總監翟慶聰和前助理總監 Migaa Newby，皆積極分享與引導討論，加強與來自其他國家的友好聯繫。

我也很自豪地告知，地區在剛卸任地區總監羅承益的領導下，在2024–25年度榮獲多項殊榮：年度基金捐獻、整體基金捐獻及全球根除小兒麻痺症計劃貢獻均名列前茅。與此同時，智慧香港扶輪社的年度服務項目：樂齡電競體驗日在服務項目展示中獲得了「卓越項目大獎」- 這不僅是對該社的肯定，也是對我們整個地區的最大鼓舞與榮耀。

至於12月18日的埠際會議，我們將中期回顧會員增長、基金捐獻及「採取行動的人」推廣的成績。很榮幸邀請到國際扶輪基金會保管委員會主委 Holger Knack到港出席，見證我們的成就。

隨著香港於12月7日舉行立法會選舉，感謝政府聯絡委員會的主委前地區總監錢樹楷迅速組織短片拍攝工作，倡導社友參與投票。讓我們每個人都履行公民責任，共同塑造更美好的未來。

讓我們繼續攜手支援有需要的群體，守護公眾健康，共建社區的堅韌力。在艱難的時刻，扶輪的友誼始終團結並照亮我們走向有意義的服務之路。
