By AG Adrian Lau (Chair, 2025 Intercity Meeting Organizing Committee)

The Intercity Meeting held on 18 December 2025 was an evening of reflection, connection, and Rotary spirit, bringing together Rotarians and Rotaractors in District 3450. The banquet was well-attended by 230 distinguished guests, including our Guest of Honor, Past Rotary International President Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation Holger Knaack, and his wife, Mrs. Susanne Knaack.

The evening opened with District Governor Cassy Cheng’s remarks, highlighting the District’s accomplishments so far in the Unite for Good Year, its dedication to community service, and its continuing commitment to creating meaningful change around the world. Her message reminded the District of the importance of well-being in body, mind, and soul, and Rotary’s goal “Unite For Good”.

After a video recap of Past RI President Holger’s visits in Hong Kong and Macau earlier in the week, Past District Governor Eric Chak gave an introduction to the evening’s Guest of Honor, Past RI President Holger. In his address, Past RI President Holger emphasized the significance of membership as the lifeblood of Rotary, offering encouragement to clubs to nurture emerging leaders and strengthen engagement across generations. He also extended sincere appreciation to District 3450 for its strong support of The Rotary Foundation, whose global programs continue to improve education, foster peace, and uplift communities. Governor Cassy presented a gift – a glass sculpture – to Past RI President Holger and Susanne on behalf of the District, after which Past District Governor Ada Cheng delivered a Vote of Thanks to Past President Holger.

Throughout the evening, District 3450 acknowledged the efforts and creativity of clubs and individuals across several segments. The District Rotary Foundation Committee applauded those whose philanthropic contributions enable service projects locally and abroad. The People of Action Photo and Reel Competition, organized by the District Public Image Committee, presented powerful stories and images that showcased the moments of Rotary members making a difference in their communities. The District Membership Committee also recognized clubs and members for strengthening club vitality, chartering new clubs, and expanding Rotary’s reach.

The District also applauded the Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong for winning the Trophy of Excellence at the 2025 Genting Rotary Institute, for the club’s “Elderly e‑Sports Tournament and Experience Day”.  The innovative project, engaging over 300 seniors and enhancing their cognitive well‑being, has been awarded for advancing economic and community development through technology and social connection.

Adding warmth to the evening, students from Buddhist To Chi Fat She Yeung Yat Lam Memorial School performed festive Christmas music and carols, filling the venue with joy and community spirit. The evening concluded with closing reflections by Intercity Meeting Organizing Committee Chair Assistant Governor Adrian Lau, bringing to an end a memorable gathering that reaffirmed Rotary’s enduring dedication to fellowship, service, and peace.
