Dear fellow People of Action,

Looking back, January provided a robust start to the second half of our service year. It began with members meeting our four candidates of District Governor Nominee Designate Election on the 14th to understand their visions before voting—a reminder that while an election yields one outcome, Rotary service is a continuous journey of leadership.

The following day, we engaged in a substantive dialogue with NPC Member Nick Chan BBS, MH, JP, exploring Hong Kong’s opportunities in the AI revolution. Our learning journey continued with a National Studies Tour in Shenzhen from the 16th to the 18th, offering firsthand insights into the Greater Bay Area’s development.

On 25 January, over 100 participants—including Rotarians, families, and friends—gathered at the Hong Kong Sea School for a lively Rotarian Sports Day. The event fostered teamwork and fellowship through a well-rounded programme designed to nurture wellness in body, mind, and soul.

Later, on 28 January, a delegation including IPDG Nigel, DGN Frank, AG William, and Area 1 Presidents visited the Macau Central Government Liaison Office. We met with Deputy Director Wang Jianfeng to outline District 3450’s strategic focus and our commitment to collaboration. Deputy Director Wang emphasised that alongside “patriots governing Macau,” the focus is increasingly on “talent-based governance”—identifying capable individuals who love Macau and can meaningfully contribute to its development. These experiences collectively strengthened our fellowship and institutional ties.

In our ongoing service, regarding the Wang Fuk Court follow-up, we are grateful for the $2.2 million in donations from Rotarians and concerned citizens (excluding the District’s $600,000 match). As some affected families relocate to Po Tin Estate, we collaborated with the Housing Authority on a site visit (12 January) and a follow-up meeting (21 January). The District will contribute approximately HKD 1.25 million to provide essential appliances for 100 flats, in support of the government’s Rehousing Well-Being Programme

Closer to home, we celebrate a special organizational milestone: the merger of a new club and an existing club—spearheaded by the same Charter President—to form Rotary Club of Peacebuilders Central Harbourfront. Along with 18 new members, this unified club embodies a cohesive vision and strategic planning for sustainable growth, demonstrating how combined forces amplify our capacity to serve.

Looking to the future, our District (10C) will join the present Zone 8 and Indonesia to form the new Zone 9 effective 1 July 2028. This new zone will encompass Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, Guangdong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia. The realignment seeks to strengthen cultural and linguistic cohesion while reflecting membership trends. Final pairing and sectioning arrangements are still being finalized by Rotary International.

February marks Rotary’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month. This is a timely opportunity for us to recommit to building understanding, practicing respectful dialogue, and reinforcing habits that prevent conflict. Peacebuilding is not merely an aspiration on a global scale; we embody this locally by how we listen, lead, and work across differences for the benefit of our communities.

With the Year of the Horse approaching, I sincerely wish you and your families a joyful and peaceful Lunar New Year. May this season bring you strength, good health, and continued progress in all that matters most.

In fellowship we serve,

DG Cassy Cheng
