Message from DG Cassy Cheng
Dear fellow People of Action,
Looking back on March, it was undoubtedly one of the busiest months of our Rotary year. Many clubs entered a season of harvest, bringing key service projects to fruition, and I was grateful to join a wide range of club and cross-area activities that reflected the strength and breadth of District 3450.

Early in the month, District 3450 worked together with the Housing Department to support residents from Wang Fuk Court who were rehoused to Po Tin Estate through our “Light Up New Lives — Rehousing Well-Being Programme.” We donated over HK$1.2 million worth of home appliances, including water heaters, cooking stoves, washing machines, and air-conditioners. We also visited two families in person to listen to their stories and hopes as they settled into a new environment. This was more than a delivery of supplies— it represented a step toward rebuilding daily life with dignity and stability. With this same spirit of care, we look forward to further collaboration with the Housing Department in youth development and support for vulnerable communities, bringing more positive energy to Hong Kong together.

The District also organised activities that strengthened fellowship and supported holistic well-being. Our Rotary Mahjong Tournament created a relaxed space for connection through friendly competition; the Rotary Centenary Challenge Cup brought Rotarians and friends together to share racing insights and enjoy the experience; and our New Member Orientation Seminar helped both new and existing members deepen their understanding of Rotary in a joyful and engaging setting. Another meaningful milestone was the official establishment of the “Let the Glacier Cool” initiative at the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change. With Will Legend’s support, District 3450 connected with the scientific expertise of the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, anchoring glacier conservation education in Hong Kong and enabling primary and secondary students to access frontier knowledge in climate science and environmental stewardship.

In health and community care, our Wellness and Blood Donation Day was held successfully, with 248 Rotarians and members of the public donating blood. I was also grateful to donate my first unit of blood that day, and to see the organising committee introduce creative body-mind-soul workshops as a refreshing addition to the programme. Our Rotary Breast Cancer project also concluded smoothly, benefiting over 500 women. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the 33 Rotary clubs that served as co-organisers and supporting partners, enabling this initiative to reach its full impact and close on a strong note.

Peace remains one of Rotary International’s key priorities this year. For the past six years, our Rotary Peace Camp has nurtured young peacebuilders, and this year 82 youths came together for a two-day overnight programme to deepen their understanding of peacebuilding. They will serve as Peace Ambassadors, promoting understanding and inclusion, building bridges through action, and helping the seeds of peace take root in more corners of society. In parallel, the 9th Secondary School Peer Mediation Competition continued to promote a culture of peace. Mediation is a neutral, communication-based process that supports peaceful dispute resolution and helps parties find win–win solutions. Through training and practice, students strengthened their expression and listening skills, learning to replace conflict with dialogue. These youth-led initiatives are a powerful testament to Rotary’s commitment to peacebuilding and to passing this mission forward.

I would also like to highlight two outstanding club projects this month. The Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northwest organised a fundraising concert for Precious Blood Hospital and successfully raised HK$3 million to benefit patients. The Rotary Club of Financial Centre marked the 10th anniversary of its Elderly Vegetarian Banquet this year, working together with 13 Rotary clubs to serve more than 600 elderly participants—an excellent demonstration of “Unite for Good.” Both initiatives showcased deep collaboration and sustainable community impact.

At the same time, our learning and leadership development for the coming Rotary year has begun. The District Team Learning Seminar for District Officers and the Presidents-Elect Learning Seminar were launched successfully. I would like to extend my congratulations to District Governor-Elect Jimmy Lau and the incoming team. May the new Rotary year continue to carry forward our mission and create lasting impact together.
Finally, a special reminder: our District’s signature annual event, the 66th District Conference, will be held on 30 and 31 May. I encourage all members to register as soon as possible, so that we may celebrate our achievements and fellowship together in the spirit of joy and unity.

In fellowship we serve,
