In recent years, Tung Chung, a tranquil community, triggered social services’ attentions; despite yellow rainstorm warning on September 21 2025, Rotary Club of Lan Kwai Fong, Rotary Club of Green Hong Kong, Rotary Club of Hong Kong Financial Centre, Rotary Club of Hong Kong Sunrise, Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunrise, as well as PwC gathered 80+ volunteers and visited 100 households in Mun Tung Estate, Yat Tung Estate, and nearby village in Tung Chung. This marked the fourth consecutive year of the “Love Delivery – Rotary in Tung Chung ” initiative, a collaborated between the Rotary Club of Lan Kwai Fong and the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (the “NAAC”); it provided practical support to grassroots families which addressed their emotional well-being.
Tung Chung homed many grassroots-families; Mun Tung Estate and Yat Tung Estate consisted of 29 blocks with Yat Tung Estate being the largest public housing estate in Hong Kong; it’s an extraordinary suburb. Mun Tung Estate housed centers for special childcare, early education and training, integrated vocational rehabilitation service as well as Hong Kong’s first school for mild and severe intellectual disabilities; it illustrated hardship for families in this community to disabilities, intellectual impairments, and special educational needs.
For these families, carer endured the heaviest burden from care for children or special-need individuals; these carers sustained immense responsibilities and psychological stress. Our volunteers assisted carers in completing emotional health surveys, with the data being utilized by professional social workers from the NAAC. These data helped awareness of their emotional health and enabled diagnosis by social workers for bespoke treatment or support. This collaborative model offered a concrete solution to alleviate carer’ mental stress and laid the foundation for peaceful community.
Adrain Lau, Assistant Governor from Rotary International District 3450 (the “D3450”), also shared his thoughts. Having personally participated in this service before and visited many families, he found the service extremely meaningful. The visits provided care for single mothers raising children with special educational needs and also aligned with one of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus. Additionally, Rotary Club of Lan Kwai Fong supported the D3450 by collaborating with various organizations to lead services that benefited the community. AG Adrian expressed hope that Rotary Club of Lan Kwai Fong would continue organizing “Love Delivery – Rotary in Tung Chung ” in the future to care for Hong Kong’s underserved communities.
Ms. Regina Cheung, Deputy Executive of the NAAC, expressed gratitude to Rotary. She noted that the volunteers’ visits to Tung Chung residents delivered supplies and, importantly offered critical interactions for residents to feel cared by us. Rotary’s sincerity on mental well-being outweighed material assistance.
As the Rotary International motto is “Service Above Self.” The Rotary Club of Lan Kwai Fong and its partners will continue their endeavors, connecting communities with love and helping more people to improve their well-being.
