District Health Project on Dementia 2025\/26<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brightening the lives of the elderly through exercise and care, the opening ceremony of the Project was held on 13 December 2025. This year, ten clubs in Area 4 were once again entrusted as co-organizers, jointly planning and executing the event, with support from eight participating clubs from other Areas, underscoring the strength of cross-club collaboration within Rotary. The ceremony began with an opening address by Organizing Committee Chair, President Irene Law of the Rotary Club of Soho Hong Kong, followed by inspiring speeches from District Governor Ms. Cassy Cheng and District Health Committee Chair Dr. Francois Fong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dementia Project brought together 130 elderly participants and their caregivers. With a focus on \u201cEmerging Sports Experiences\u201d and \u201cSpecialized Seminars for Caregivers\u2019\u201d, the program created a vibrant, interactive, and warm inclusive day, raising community awareness of elderly physical and mental health while providing support for caregivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rotarians introduced emerging sports, floor curling and Finnish m\u00f6lkky, as engaging activities that encourage enthusiastic participation from the elderly. Through play, the dual goals of physical and cognitive training were naturally achieved, putting the concept of \u201cactive aging\u201d into practice. In a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, participants threw wooden pins and pushed curling stones while calculating scores, exercising both body and mind. These safe, low-impact, and enjoyable activities not only enhanced hand-eye coordination and balance but also fostered teamwork and social interaction, filling the venue with laughter and applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The caregiver seminars featured experienced lawyers, professors, and elderly care trainers, addressing the pressures and needs faced by caregivers. Practical skills and knowledge were shared, including the purposes and key points of wills and enduring powers of attorney, strategies for caregiver mental health and self-care, and effective use of community resources. Caregivers listened attentively, expressed empathy, and shared their own experiences, gaining valuable insights and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Dementia Project was more than a joyful gathering; it was a successful example of community health promotion. Through innovative and thoughtful service design, Rotary District 3450 took meaningful action to enhance the physical and mental well-being of the elderly while empowering caregiving families with knowledge, setting a model for building a more caring and inclusive community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
