DG Mongolia Visit 2025<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

From August 21 to 26, 2025, District Governor (DG) Cassy Cheng led an official visit to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The purpose of the visit was to review Rotary service projects from the past year and explore prospects for upcoming initiatives in Mongolia. Nearly 70 delegates, including a team of Hong Kong Interactors, also joined the trip, which, for most, was the very first visit to Mongolia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, DG Cheng and her team held official meetings with 22 Rotary Clubs across Ulaanbaatar. These meetings provided an opportunity for local clubs to introduce their service projects and share Rotary\u2019s mission to serve communities worldwide. The Mongolian Rotarians also took the delegates to visit various service sites: the Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar showcased the Special Olympics project \u201cRevolution is Inclusion\u201d and a caf\u00e9 project run by parents and children with Down Syndrome. The Rotary Club of Khangai presented its Kindergarten project, while the Rotary Club of Niislel highlighted a Global Grant initiative for newborn screening through gene testing at the First Maternity Hospital. The Rotary Club of Zuunmod introduced their \u201cWater Well\u201d project. The visit concluded with a Governor\u2019s Banquet, fostering fellowship and celebration among the attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegates immersed themselves in Mongolian culture by visiting prominent landmarks such as Sukhbaatar Square, the National History Museum, Gandan Monastery, the State Department for Gobi Cashmere, the Grand Statue of Chinggis Khan, Turtle Rock, Aryapala Meditation Temple, Zaisan Memorial Hill, and the Bogd Khan Winter Palace. Additional highlights included horseback riding in Terelj National Park and a memorable whole lamb dinner followed by a campfire celebration. The group also learned some basic Mongolian phrases, including \u201cThank you\u201d (Bayarlalaa) and \u201cGood morning\u201d (\u00d6gl\u00f6\u00f6nii mend).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my 5th time to Mongolia, the last trip was made in 2015.  What has remained the same?  What has changed?  Ulaanbaatar is buzzing with new buildings and plagued with heavy traffic, but the real magic began when we left the city to the outskirt.  The land unfolded endlessly\u2014green pastures rolling under a sky so wide it made you feel small; the occasional ancient rock formations leave you in wonder. The silence wasn\u2019t empty; it felt alive, as if the earth itself had stories to tell. Mongolians carry a special spirit \u2014 tough, proud, and deeply connected to their land. A foreigner who has lived there for over a decade told me, \u201cLife is tough here, but strangely the challenge is what’s attracting me to stay.\u201d  Perhaps it’s a reflection of the quiet strength that’s innate in the land of Mongolia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Change is creeping in though: cozy ger resorts, fresh fruit and vegetables on our plates, and roads that now link places once separated by days of travel. Progress is real, but uneven. The question isn\u2019t merely what has changed\u2014but how Mongolia can move forward, holding onto its wild beauty and soul, while narrowing, not widening, the gap between rich and poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DG Mongolia Visit 2025<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Having been a District 3450 Rotarian, the Mongolian Clubs in Area 9 and 10 have always felt like a distant relative to me! We know they exist and do great services but we hardly get to meet them in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In support of District Governor Cassy Cheng, I knew the timing was right for me to make this trip, so I registered as soon as the link was available without second thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was not disappointed at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mongolia is a big Country territorially speaking but heavily dependent on mining. Poverty and inequality remain significant issues, alongside the ongoing struggle to manage the “resource curse” and its economic volatility. This set the scene for the Rotary Clubs to be working on all kinds of social initiatives serving different needs in the communities. Mostly without any Government aids and recognition. They truly are the People of Action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have visited a few service projects such as \u201cKindergarten Project\u201d by Rotary Club of Khangai and \u201cNewborn Screening Project\u201d by Rotary Club of Niislel, which they are seeking international partners, these projects are typically planned for the long-term stretching over multiple years. It would only be appropriate that we should support our fellow clubs in the same District. Meanwhile, we should also learn to think further and deeper into Hong Kong\u2019s own community and not be afraid to tackle bigger social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor Banquet was well organised with traditional performances and fine food. I would have hoped that they would set up the room with the area\u2019s Rotary Clubs sharing their club projects and unique characteristics so we could get to know them better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a tourist, we were served with the best meals and accommodation, visited all the attractions any tourist should visit\u2026to me personally, horse riding was most fun of all and staying in a ger under a beautiful starry sky felt like a true blessing. I even jogged around the Premier Bolor Resort in the chilly morning just to be embraced by the rocky setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frankly, if only to visit Mongolia as a tourist, then perhaps \u201conce\u201d is enough! However, I look forward to visiting this friendly country again and admire the work they, or \u201cwe\u201d as Rotarians, have done to change the lives of so many!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the 3,000km between Hong Kong and Ulaanbaatar, we should definitely find a fun and effective way to Unite For Good!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u70ba\u4e86\u652f\u6301\u5730\u5340\u7e3d\u76e3Cassy Cheng\uff0c\u6211\u5fc3\u611f\u6b64\u6642\u6b63\u662f\u8e0f\u4e0a\u9019\u8d9f\u65c5\u7a0b\u7684\u6700\u4f73\u6642\u6a5f\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u5728\u5831\u540d\u9023\u7d50\u958b\u653e\u6642\u6beb\u4e0d\u7336\u8c6b\u5730\u7acb\u5373\u767b\u8a18\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6211\u5011\u53c3\u89c0\u4e86\u6578\u500b\u670d\u52d9\u9805\u76ee\uff0c\u5982Rotary Club of Khangai  \u7684\u300c\u5e7c\u5152\u5712\u8a08\u756b\u300d\u8207Rotary Club of Niislel\u7684\u300c\u65b0\u751f\u5152\u7be9\u6aa2\u8a08\u756b\u300d\u3002\u9019\u4e9b\u8a08\u5283\u901a\u5e38\u6a6b\u8de8\u6578\u5e74\u3001\u9700\u8981\u9577\u671f\u7d93\u71df\uff0c\u4e14\u6b63\u5728\u5c0b\u6c42\u570b\u969b\u5925\u4f34\u5408\u4f5c\u3002\u4f5c\u70ba\u540c\u5730\u5340\u7684\u53cb\u793e\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u7406\u61c9\u7d66\u4e88\u652f\u6301\uff1b\u540c\u6642\u4e5f\u61c9\u5b78\u6703\u66f4\u6df1\u5165\u601d\u8003\u9999\u6e2f\u672c\u5730\u793e\u5340\u7684\u9700\u6c42\uff0c\u7121\u754f\u76f4\u9762\u66f4\u5927\u7684\u793e\u6703\u8ab2\u984c\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u4ee5\u904a\u5ba2\u8eab\u4efd\u800c\u8a00\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u4eab\u53d7\u4e86\u6700\u512a\u8cea\u7684\u9910\u98f2\u8207\u4f4f\u5bbf\uff0c\u9020\u8a2a\u4e86\u6240\u6709\u5fc5\u904a\u6210\u5409\u601d\u6c57\u666f\u9ede\u22ef\u5c0d\u6211\u500b\u4eba\u800c\u8a00\uff0c\u9a0e\u99ac\u662f\u6700\u6709\u8da3\u7684\u9ad4\u9a57\uff0c\u800c\u5728\u7e41\u661f\u9ede\u9ede\u7684\u84bc\u7a79\u4e0b\u5165\u4f4f\u8499\u53e4\u5305\u66f4\u5b9b\u5982\u5929\u8cdc\u4e4b\u798f\u3002\u6211\u751a\u81f3\u5728\u6e05\u51b7\u7684\u65e9\u6668\uff0c\u65bc\u5ea6\u5047\u6751\u5167\u6162\u8dd1\uff0c\u53ea\u70ba\u6c89\u6d78\u65bc\u5d99\u5ccb\u5c71\u77f3\u7684\u61f7\u62b1\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5766\u767d\u8aaa\uff0c\u82e5\u50c5\u4ee5\u89c0\u5149\u70ba\u76ee\u7684\uff0c\u8499\u53e4\u6216\u8a31\u300c\u4e00\u751f\u4e00\u6b21\u300d\u8db3\u77e3\uff01\u4f46\u6211\u4ecd\u671f\u5f85\u518d\u6b21\u9020\u8a2a\u9019\u500b\u53cb\u5584\u7684\u570b\u5ea6\uff0c\u898b\u8b49\u4ed6\u5011\uff0c\u6216\u8a72\u8aaa\u300c\u6211\u5011\u300d\u6276\u8f2a\u4eba\uff0c\u5982\u4f55\u4ee5\u884c\u52d5\u6539\u8b8a\u7121\u6578\u751f\u547d\u3002\u5118\u7ba1\u9999\u6e2f\u8207\u70cf\u862d\u5df4\u6258\u76f8\u8ddd\u4e09\u5343\u516c\u91cc\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u5fc5\u5b9a\u80fd\u627e\u5230\u6709\u8da3\u800c\u6709\u6548\u7684\u65b9\u5f0f\u300c\u5718\u7d50\u884c\u5584\u300d\uff01<\/p>\n\n\n\n
